Companies House · Identity verification
Verify your identity as a director, from anywhere.

Since 18 November 2025, every UK company director and person with significant control must verify with Companies House. Here are the two routes and which one suits you.

Facts checked against gov.uk on 17 October 2026. General information, not professional advice.

The 30-second verdict

Verify yourself if

  • You hold a biometric passport and are comfortable with an app check: verify yourself with GOV.UK One Login
  • You want it done in a few minutes and want to keep the process in your own hands

Use an agent if

  • You have no suitable photo ID, or direct several companies: an authorised agent may be easier
  • You do not trust yourself to keep the personal code private: ask your provider how they handle it
Our experience

ThriveOnz Group UK Ltd’s director verified through Osome, acting as an authorised agent. It took about 2 hours. Osome also files our confirmation statement. We use Osome for our own company. Osome has a referral programme and our Osome guide uses a referral link.

The rules

When you need to do it

Who What to do
Directors Give your Companies House personal code with your next confirmation statement. Do it for each company you direct.
People with significant control (PSCs) Verify and give your code in a 14-day window. If you are also a director, the PSC code goes through the PSC service in the 14 days after the confirmation statement date.
New companies Each director’s personal code is asked for at registration.

The 18 November 2025 date started a 12-month transition, not a single deadline. Check your own dates on the Companies House register.

What to do

Four steps

  1. Find your confirmation statement date and PSC window on the Companies House register.
  2. Choose your route: GOV.UK One Login (biometric passport from any country, UK photo driving licence, or biometric residence permit) or an authorised agent.
  3. Verify, then keep your personal code private.
  4. Give the code with your confirmation statement (director) or through the PSC service (PSC).
Avoid these

Mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving it to the last week of your window
  • Using an expired passport in the One Login app, which it cannot accept
  • Sharing your personal code with anyone you do not trust
